After rumors of quarterback Andrew Luck returning to practice began swirling last week, he did not see the practice field on any practice day before the game against the Browns. A week later, after Sunday night’s 18-46 blunder in Seattle, general manager Chris Ballard stated that they were “going to work him back into practice” this week.
It was officially confirmed today that he will indeed be seeing the practice field. He is listed as doubtful and most likely will continue to be listed as such for at least two weeks. The timetable for a Week 6 return against the Titans in Nashville is not out of the question yet, but he would only have two weeks’ worth of practice under his belt for 2017 after missing all offseason programs and training camp.
Luck is an experienced veteran, but two weeks is not a lot of practice time, so Week 6 may be too early for a return.
A Week 7 return when Jacksonville comes to Indianapolis may be more likely, but thankfully the Colts schedule is not the unbearable for the next three weeks. Indianapolis will face the 49ers at home, the Titans on a Monday Night game in Nashville, and then the Jaguars at home. These should be some winnable games for the Colts, even without Luck. They have shown flashes of talent, at least enough talent to handle some, if not all of these teams and hopefully set Andrew Luck up nicely for a return with center Ryan Kelly and a stable record to get the Colts going in the right direction.
