The Indy fuel won their first game of the seven-game road trip versus the Quad City Mallards on Friday night. With goalie Matt Tompkins returning to the team at the beginning of this trip, things were looking good for the Indy Fuel. Matt Rupert, Josh Shalla and Ryan Rupert were the catalysts behind their win in Moline. Ryan Rupert scored two goals including the game-winning goal. The only goal by the Quad City Mallards was Pohlkamp to even the game at one at the 4:07 mark of the third period. Matt Tomkins ended up stopping 45 of 46 shots in his return to the Indy Fuel.

Saturday night ended up being a more difficult time for the Indy Fuel. Rookie Étienne Marcoux started in net for Indy. This was the first of two games against the Kalamazoo Wings. Indy’s Darian Dziurzynski started off the scoring at the 1:54 mark. This was his 13 of the season. Then Matt Rupert scored his 10th of the season at the 5:15 mark. Michael Neal scored his 14th of the season at the 8:52 mark of the first. It was great seeing them starting off so strong scoring the first three goals of the first period. Kalamazoo’s Irving scored his ninth of the season to put the Wings on the board at the 17:45 mark of the first.

The second period the scoring was nonexistent for the first 17 minutes. It was a quiet period with no penalty minutes either. Kalamazoo’s Moynihan scored his 10th of the season at the 18:29 mark. Less than a minute later Tommy Olczyk scored his 10th of the season for Indy stopping Kalamazoo’s momentum. The period ended with Indy leading four to two.

The third period was truly a game changer for the Kalamazoo Wings. They scored four goals starting at the three-minute mark from Scheidl. This was his 10th of the season. Then Steinglen scored his 9th at the 12:29 mark. Moynihan scored his 11th of the season and his second of the game at the 16:47 mark. Then Kalamazoo’s Mullin scored an empty-netter at the 18:42 mark for his 16th of the season. This was a tough loss for the Indy Fuel considering they started off so strong. They play Kalamazoo again on today.

The Indy Fuel have five more games on the road before they return home on Saturday, February 24th for their zombie-themed night.
