“Back of the Future”: Mack must prove he’s Colts guy

Playoff elimination is pretty much inevitable for Indianapolis after a 16-20 loss at home to the Tennessee Titans. Where do the Colts go from here?

Draft Position

These last five games may seem all but useless, but they are actually some of the most important of the season.

For Indianapolis, a top five pick in the draft seems very likely. One player to watch over the next few weeks is running back Marlon Mack.

Mack had a costly fumble in the red-zone that factored into another second half meltdown. General manager Chris Ballard should be watching him closely. Mack should be getting more playing time in the weeks to come. The Colts must decide if Marlon Mack is really the future in the backfield.

Saquon Indy Bound?

It’s important the Colts carefully evaluate what they have in Mack with a potential “once in a generation” talent coming out of Penn State, running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley is a favorite to win the Heisman trophy and his stat line is incredible. He has over 2,000 all-purpose yards and 22 touchdowns. Mack needs to prove that he can be an every down back, play consistently, be reliable and avoid costly turnovers.

Barkley would be a godsend for an ailing Colts offense. If he lives up to the hype, Barkley would cause fits for defenses around the league. If Andrew Luck can return, he and Barkley would be a potent offensive duo in Indy.

It can be argued that there are bigger needs on the Colts roster, but Barkley, if available at five, would be the best player on the board by far.
