Each week, we single out an outstanding Indianapolis Colts player from each area of the game – offense, defense and special teams – for their positive impact on the team’s outcome.
The Colts (2-4) faltered to the Houston Texans (4-2) on Sunday night, 26-23.
Frank Gore, Running Back
1 reception, 2 yards, 106 rushing yards
Week 6 was full of positives for the Colts. This game presented something for the Colts that Indianapolis has not seen in a very long time, a 100 yard rushing performance. Gore was able to slice and dice the Texans defense to the tune of 99 yards. Wait, what? That’s right, Gore lost a yard the very next carry to lose his 100 yard game. Fortunately for Gore and the Colts, he was able to gain enough yards in overtime to finish with 106.
Vontae Davis, Defensive Back
5 tackles, 1 interception
This defense is the real life incarnation of Dr. Jackle and Mr. Hyde. Indianapolis’ defense was able to hold the Texans in check for most of the night until their transformation. Suddenly the Texans looked as if they were playing against a PAL football team. This lose hurt not only the team but the community more than any other this season. Since we have to give out this award, have a ball Vontae Davis.
Adam Vinatieri, Kicker
3/3 field goals, 2 extra points, long of 41
Is it even necessary to mention who wins this game ball anymore? Vinatieri is a man among boys out there, literally. At 43 years old, it seems he is only getting better with age. He scored 11 points and is now the owner of the second longest streak of consecutive made field goals. Vinatieri could look to claim the number one spot next week.
