A Quick History of Blue HQ Media

  • Blue HQ Media was first started as a weekly YouTube/podcast for the now defunct sports site known as ProFootball Spot. In late 2016, the three hosts of the show decided to create their own website dedicated to sports coverage in the state of Indiana. That site became known as Blue HQ Media and launched in October of 2016.
  • In April of 2017, Blue HQ Media moved from a WordPress blog to a dedicated domain name.
  • In August of 2018, Sports Media Pass was established as a branch of Blue HQ Media to provide a more encompassing brand for the company’s coverage.
  • In March of 2021, Blue HQ Media became an LLC with three partners guiding the company forward. Due to complications, the site went dormant until the relaunch in 2024.

Your Role with Blue HQ Media

Contributors at Blue HQ Media are our most important resource. We depend on contributors to not only produce high-quality content but also share it on social media platforms and engage with readers. Contributors are expected to have a grasp of the Blue HQ Media style guide and write articles accordingly. They are also expected to be engaged, active and motivated. Participation and communication in Slack on a regular basis are essential. Contributors are expected to follow all Blue HQ Media policies and maintain a team-first attitude.

The requirements of the position may seem tricky at first but with a little practice, you’ll easily master them. Contributors are expected to have at least one article published within each calendar month with a minimum length of 300 words and at least two internal links to remain active. As previously mentioned, sharing your work is one of the most critical steps in succeeding.

The Different Role Variations

Blue HQ Media has the following roles that all contributors can reach over time:

  • Writer – Entry-level role with the company. Writers are considered contributors if he/she consistently produces less than two articles per week. Contributors are ineligible for media credentials unless specifically asked to cover an event by ownership.

 

  • Senior Writer – Senior Writers are writers who have proven themselves to be productive with an average of two articles per week over a six week period. Senior Writers are eligible for media credentials. Senior Writers fall back to contributors if articles average drops below the two per week average.

 

  • Editor – Editors are writers who have proven themselves to be proficient in grammar and the Blue HQ Media style guide. They have the power to publish articles and make changes before publishing. Editors are eligible for credentials.
